Bigger and Better

After our ‘wildly successful’ first season, we got down to work preparing for season 2 in November 2018. We thought up ways of improving our Training Schedules. Well the Schedules were refined by the coaches but it sounds better if I say ‘we’. What ‘we’ all did was find ways of making our program more inclusive by bringing in more players who would ordinarily find the cost of joining an academy like ours prohibitive.

LiveAd, one of our main sponsors graciously accepted to subsidize the cost for 30 players! 30. So we have the money to offer scholarships right? How do we award them to deserving players? The coaches(what would we do without these people?) suggested that we go round to the primary schools and talk to the Games teachers’ who would identify deserving players.

Our Tech Sponsors, Better World Systems (BWS) also volunteered to run a Social Media Campaign that saw us go into the Estates (Mtaani) getting players to apply online.

And so it happens, we award 25 scholarships to boys and girls from various Estates and Primary Schools in Thika including ACK Thika Memorial, Moi Academy and our hosts MKP School. All systems are a go for Season 2

We could tell you how much fun we had and how when the camp was nearly over both parents and the kids begged us to extend it. Again.

We could tell you of how our players like Walid, Stacey and Arnold are showing marked improvements in their school work. How players like Bukes and Ericoh have continued to demonstrate leadership qualities. How Players like Miss D and Janice have proven that girls too can play soccer with equal and sometimes stronger passion as boys. But by now you know.
